Description

So I decided to take part in the Evo-Obsessed-Club's Plentiful Pantheon Contest and put together this drawing. I myself have always been a fan of Rogue as a character; take a look at my gallery and you'll see it. Also I tend to draw on my Celtic roots, so I decided to combine the two for this work.

What we have here is Rogue as the Celtic goddess The Morrigan. A description of the Morrigan can vary, but I clipped together a description bellow for those you like to read lore. If you want more info, send me a note and I will send you some good links on more of her lore.

What I did was draw Rogue with a simple mechanical pencil and paper before I scanned it in and worked on it in Photoshop. The sky, trees, and grass are all done using various brushes.

The picture is done in the monochrome to give it more of a darker feel, invoking more of the character of the Morrigan.

The clothing is inspired by Keira Knightley's outfit from King Arthur during the final battle against the Saxons. She also is carrying the Spear of Lugh, also known as the Spear of Destiny.

As the description bellow says, the Morrigan is sometimes viewed as a triple deity, and I might expand it later by adding Mystique, and the Scarlet Witch in the future as the other aspects of the Morrigan.

The Morrigan is a goddess of battle, strife, and fertility. Her name translates as either "Great Queen" or "Phantom Queen," and both epithets are entirely appropriate for her. The Morrigan appears as both a single goddess and a trio of goddesses.
The 'Phantom Queen,'s role and cult can easily be identified as remains of a matriarchal cult. She has a lot in common with goddesses like Inanna/Ishtar, the Indian Kali or Hecate.

The origins of the Morrígan seem to reach directly back to the megalithic cult of the Mothers. The Mothers (Matrones, Idises, Dísir, etc.) usually appeared as triple goddesses and their cult was expressed through both battle ecstasy and regenerative ecstasy.

The Morrigan is prophetess of all misfortune in battle and has knowledge of the fate of humanity. She is also the messenger of death as the dark lady/washer at the ford : Morrigan is seen washing bloody laundry prior to battle by those destined to die.

Her personality is associated with the sometimes frightening aspects of female energy.

As a protectress she empowers an individual to confront challenges with great personal strength, even against seemingly overwhelming odds. Roman chroniclers reported that Celts went into battle naked, exposing tattoos to summon their magical forces.
